Four days after the 15 and 16 March outbreak, reinsurance broker Gallagher Re said it expected insured losses to settle at a minimum of around $1 billion, with the potential to grow. It put the overall direct economic cost at least 25% higher once uninsured and underinsured losses were counted. It was the second billion-dollar insured storm event in the United States in a single week.
