Utilities sent 94.9 million final shut-off notices to residential electricity customers in 2024, an exact count of 94,870,709. October was the heaviest month at 9.0 million, June the lightest at 7.2 million. EIA counts notices rather than people: one account can receive several in a year, and the agency did not collect data on how many individual accounts were affected.
